Anger isn’t inherently bad. In fact, it’s actually quite helpful. Knowing what is unacceptable to us helps us know what we truly desire, and so much more!
The feeling of anger is not the problem (or the fact that we feel it in the first place). It’s the lack of acknowledgement and expression that creates issues like dis-ease, depression, and even disconnection from our Purpose.
Anger, more specifically righteous anger, is very present in the Collective right now. This is anger that is justified and seeks to spark change. It is the emotion of the time in which we are living.

Yet, as spiritual people, anger is still one of those things that feels wrong to us. We feel guilt when it comes up because we are supposed to be “better” or “higher vibrating “ than that. So, we peace out, try to meditate it away, or otherwise bypass it. We've not been taught to cultivate our anger and use it for the greater good. Yet, those leaders who’ve had the greatest impact were able to acknowledge, honor, and harness their anger in order to create incredible change — spiritually, socially, and world-wide. Think Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks, just to name a few. These people were all really pissed-off about something and channeled their anger into something beautiful and much-needed.
Anger is the catalyst for change. It is the destructive fire that precedes the rebuild and the lava flow that creates the incredible harvest. Its presence points out to us the change we are supposed to be a part of. When we choose to ignore anger, we don’t receive its messages and we become confused about our Purpose and unable to hear our intuition.
At this time, we are being called to embody more of our range—all of our emotions. We have cut ourselves off from reaching the heights of happiness and joy because we have cut ourselves off from feeling the “negatives.” You can’t dull one end of the spectrum without without affecting the fullness of the entire experience.
This is partially because we’ve told ourselves a lot for stories over time. Two of the most detrimental are:
1. In order to receive and keep love, we have to be nice, sweet, palatable, friendly, etc. This threat of losing Love has caused us to censor ourselves in so many ways.
Luckily, we have been cultivating strength and Love from the inside, so this paralyzing fear does not have as big of a grip on us anymore. Becoming aware is the first step to change…
2. We are “too sensitive” to know what's going on in the world because it affects to greatly. This is a HUGE story that has kept us from shining our Light and taking the necessary action. How? We can’t know what the actions are if we don’t know what’s going on!
This doesn’t mean that we need to barrage ourselves with media, because there is truth to our sensitivity. It means that we don’t hide. We make an effort to know in a way that feels aligned to us. This is how we live out Purpose. By knowing where we are needed because the things that trigger our anger are the very things we are here to help with. Anger is the divining rod that leads us directly to our life Purpose.
One of our superpowers is the truth—we can spot incongruity immediately. As we look around the world, we can see how we are needed now more than ever before. We can call out the places where there is complete untruth and start shining the light on what is true, what is real, and how we can all start connecting to build from the place of integrity. We have never been more needed in that respect than we are right now.
It can seem overwhelming, and we need to remember that there are many leaders who have made great changes by taking their anger, harnessing it, and making it into a movement based on dignity and love. Just listen to Dr. King speak, and you can hear the undercurrent of anger that he carefully keeping in check with every well-chosen word. He let the feeling be there, but was careful not to let it take over. He was transmuting it into a great movement that stirred people from within, that resonated with and for them.
When anger takes the lead, people shut their ears and get stirred in a way that is not always useful. When we inspire people and give them a positive way to express and use their anger, then things like the things we're seeing in the world happen less, and great things can come of it.
Make no mistake—meditation, prayer, sending love, and sending light are still incredibly powerful. AND, at this time, we are needed to be the hands and hearts of the Divine. We need to take concrete actions, as well as to be in meditation and as balanced as possible. It's time for the grounded and the spiritual to meet in order to create the change that's needed.
Unfortunately, there is no real template for this because. we are in a completely new energy—a moment-to-moment paradigm. We are the ones leading this change. But, we can look to the people who have sparked change in their time, and with the energy of the planet then, for inspiration. We can garner those truths, see the empirical evidence, and go forward with more certainty so that we don't have moments of doubt quite as often.
Anger begets creativity. When anger is present, creative solutions run rampant and vice versa. Very often anger leads to ingenious solutions.
Let’s acknowledge our anger instead of stuffing it back down inside, see what it is here to show us and use it to take inspired action. It’s incredible how much clearer we become when there is space for all the emotions!
