As a child, I studied the prophetic writings of Nostradamus like it was my job—cross referencing his poetic refrains with history to figure out exactly how his languaging translated into real world events. I was curious about what what to expect based on his visions that were future-facing. Then, one night there was a special episode of my favorite science show focused solely on this prophet and a decent chunk of time was dedicated to his last writings—presumably about the end times.
On the screen, I saw fires that couldn’t be controlled, plagues, fighting, people crying in anguish, dry barren land, people starving and dying of thirst. They also discussed unpredictable natural disasters and spoke of the rise of evil within the world’s leadership.
I watched in horror and tried to calm myself with the assurance that this wasn’t possible. Even though, on paper, it looked like these predictions were supposed to happen in my lifetime, there was no way the world could change that much in so few years! This was the stuff that they tell us goes on in other places, and n.i.m.b.y.. Surely, the adults and our good leaders would not let things get to that point. (Hey, I was eight.)
Fast Forward to Today.
I am watching the exact same types of video footage on tv—except that at this time, it’s not a show about Nostradamus’ prophecies. It’s the nightly news, and it’s written on the faces of everyone I pass—anger, fear, helplessness.
Despite living in the time of a plague and absolute chaos, the gravity of the situation hadn’t fully hit me until today, when I got a note from the farm that produces our CSA shares letting us know that as a result of drought earlier in the planting season (the driest year on record), many of the crops that would normally be harvested at this time are unusable.
Earlier this year, when food was scarce in the supermarket due to a perfect storm of panic, greed, and necessary health precautions, all I kept saying was, “We just need to make it to CSA season, and we will have enough fresh produce for ourselves and to share for months.” That was my solace and silver lining. Here we are, and my last bit of remaining normalcy is gone from 2020.
To boot, this happened right after I watched a video about how climate change is causing many species of coffee to go extinct and has made it all but impossible for coffee farmers to produce crops. [Insert the same feeling of horror and talking myself down from the ledge that I experienced at 8]. ☕️
But this time, I am the adult and there is no benevolent leadership to prevent it from happening. Except me. And you.
Why Are You Telling Us This? (AKA: You Are SUPPOSED to Be All Love and Light!)
The earth needs for us to change. She is not going to shake us off per se, but many of us will be leaving—through soul choice and necessity. Earth is overpopulated to begin with, and there are definitely too many of us who take more from her than we give back. It’s not a sustainable equation and we’ve been told over and over again, “Gaia will survive, and she will ascend.”
As she moves into the 5D energy, we have choices. We can either ascend with her (Hellooooooo working through like a kajillion lifetimes in mere months!), stay on the path of ascension working through all the levels of the 4D, or leave and incarnate on another planet that will provide the 3D and low 4D experiences that we desire.
None of these choices are wrong. They simply dictate our individual experiences, the people we associate with and call to us, and where we fall into the discomfort (and eventual bliss) that accompanies growth.
Where Do We Begin?
No matter what our decisions are at the soul level, we can all take some simple actions to help begin reversing the effects of climate change or make peace with Mother Gaia before leaving.
Let’s take it right into our own kitchens. At this point, greenhouse gasses produced from food waste in plastic bags has surpassed even those produced by cattle farming! We can eliminate as much food waste as possible. When we do have some, like corn husks, banana peels, etc., we can compost them. If this is absolutely not an option, we can use small compostable garbage bags and take them out more frequently.
Compost creates incredibly fertile soil, and you can use it to plant your own garden, which seems to be something we are all going to need to do for at least a little while.
Simple changes change the world. Though each of us is only one person, that one person should never underestimate their impact. People learn the most efficiently through observation, and as they see how you are living and the effect that it has, they will want to do the same thing. It’s often the simplest things that make the biggest impact and bring a little more love to this beautiful earth.
And, hey, if for no other reason, please do it to save the coffee.
TLDR:
The world is a hot mess.
You might be leaving or you might be staying.
Make your peace with Gaia and begin to change the ecology here.
Composting is a simple way to do that.
Coffee is good.
