How To: Get a Good Night's Sleep...As An Empath

There’s great information about getting better sleep all over the internet, but it goes deeper for us. Most of us do not realize that as we get more sensitive, our environment affects us to a greater degree—this means everything from EMFs to “stuff” to astrological happenings!

So, if you’ve been experiencing disrupted sleep, there are probably some shifts you can make right now to start resting better right away.

As our sensitivity increases, we expect ourselves to function optimally in the same old environments, and this doesn't work. If you're finding yourself waking up even more tired than when you went to bed or at the very least, not feeling rested at all, here are a few things that you should be considering:

  1. Ditch the screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Earlier in life, watching tv before retiring for the night might have been your way of winding down—which was fine. Keep in mind that the screens are different now, as is the content. Things are much more disturbing and violent—designed to shock you, grab your attention, overstimulate you, and keep you engaged.

Societally, we are bound to electronic devices most of the day, and this additional screen time keeps the nervous system, the mind, and emotions wound up—not to mention that the blue light from these screens actually suppresses melatonin production!

Every app and alert on your phone is designed to keep you engaged, which keeps you much more stimulated than you need to be, in turn keeping you awake longer.

  2. Sanctuary! We could all use a space of peace in this world right now, so set up your sleep space to be exactly that! Ditch the piles of unopened mail, electronics, and clutter. Make sure that it's dark enough to be conducive to sleep.

Your sensitivity means that you feel the energies of objects and they can interfere with your ability to relax and begin the sleep process—even the ones you love. Your altar and crystals will need to come out of the bedroom, as well. The energy from crystals and devotional objects can be loud or at the very least interruptive. Try to keep them as far away from the bed as possible or out of the room completely.

Since you are intuitive and have a relationship with your crystals and other magic-making tools, if they’re asking to be in the room with you overnight, then by all means, listen. But, as a rule of thumb, you will sleep much more soundly if they are not in the room.

  3. The Myth of Subservient Service. It seems that the biggest misunderstanding in terms of us working with our guides, the Angels, and the Divine is that we need to be of service, despite the toll it might be taking on us—that we have no control or no say in the name of the greater good.

People are constantly telling me that they are tired because of all the work they do at night, and this is absolutely true. We all work a. lot. while we “sleep,” but some of us are more aware of it than others. The mistake we make (all over the place in our lives, it seems) is not setting boundaries.

We can do all of that work and awaken feeling relaxed and refreshed. We have free will choice, and this is the beauty of being human. Our Angels really enjoy having us experience this and being with us as we do! Having free will means that we get to choose how far we go before it becomes a sacrifice to our own well-being.

Before you go to sleep, you can set the intention that you are happy to work, release karma, heal, astrally travel throughout the night—however you can also state to your Angels, Divine Team, and higher self that your human body needs to wake up feeling refreshed.

This is to your well-being and the integrity of the work that you do throughout the day. No one knows what it's like to be in your body, so you have to let them know what is ok and what is too much. I promise you that the work will still get done, it will just have less of an effect on your wellness.

Your soul signed on to do this work. Your soul signed on to these duties. What will change is how it affects your body. The same amount of work will be done, but it will have less of an impact on your physical, mental, and emotional systems.

There is no need to beg or barter. Just respectfully demand and command what you need as a declarative statement. Period. End of story. Because of Universal Law, it has to be so.

Take a look around yourself. See where you might need to tweak some things at this point in your life. Remember, you are constantly evolving, and your environment and conversations need to evolve with you. This leaves room for you to grow and serve in a deeper way— a way that allows you to embody more of your energy and power every day.

I know that if you make some of these adjustments, you will be sleeping like a baby in no time flat.

TLDR

If you are having trouble sleeping, you have not taken your sensitive empathetic nature into account. Put down your electronics, cleanse and refresh your sleep space, and set boundaries with the amount and type of work you are doing during dreamtime.

You’ll be sleeping better in no time!
