Angel Messages With Theresa: The Difficulty With Surrender

Humans have difficulty with surrender. It might be because we’ve subconsciously programmed so much meaning into that word. We look at it as a last resort—an outward reflection of our weakness—that means that we’ve run out of options.

For these reasons, letting go (yes, you can use this phrase instead of surrender) often comes with a feeling of powerlessness.

Interestingly enough, we don’t actually have to be brought to our knees before we let go. We can hand the Angels whatever we would like help with at any time.

Our current spiritual experience is about attaining self-mastery—opening to the depth of power and knowing within us, through the grace of the Divine. When the Angels ask us to surrender, it can seem like the opposite of what we're striving for. This is because we’re still looking through the lens of weakness. The Angels want us to throw those old ideas out the window and embrace the great influx of energy that comes when we allow ourselves to receive help.

There are so many experiences in life where we’re white-knuckling through it, holding on so tightly that we lose track of ourselves. As spiritual people, we know that our Angels are always there and ready to assist. We also know that everything works out for the best and that Divine Timing is a real thing. The issue is when those things don’t look the way we want or expect them to.

There's a part of us that thinks that we know better. There's another part that thinks that if we let go of this situation we may lose something we really value—a beloved person, a new job, the list goes on and on. There’s yet another part of us that thinks because of all the spiritual work we’ve done, we won’t have to experience pain. The Universe owes us.

We get so attached to a certain outcome that we become constricted, closing ourselves off to all of the other miraculous potentials. We are, at the same time, hesitant to hand it over to the Divine and allow ourselves to reclaim our expanded nature.

The Angels remind us that holding on reinforces a pattern of limitation that no longer fits our experience. We know better and different, so how can we get ourselves to be ok with letting go?

We need to focus on the feelings we want to create in our experience and in the world. How do we want to feel in this situation? How do we want others to feel? Then, we need to release all ideas about how this will come to pass.

When we do that, the Universe gets clear direction and our confused thoughts are not mucking up the path. We have a limited view of the situation from where we stand. Our Higher Selves, the Angels, and the Divine are omniscient.

When we’ve turned the situation over, we are then freed. (Though there might still be a lot of emotion and feelings for us to wade through.) We reclaim all of the energy that we didn’t even realize we were losing unnecessarily while trying to hold on. Now we are able to receive our guidance about next steps.

The Angels compare letting go to a rainstorm. They say that when we’re hesitant to let go and to hand things over it's like trying to stop the rain. When it rains we have choices—we can go out and dance in it, stay in the house, use an umbrella, choose to drive instead of walk. These are choices that we can make within the circumstance of the rain. The one thing we can't do is stop it from raining.

The same is true with bigger situations in our lives. We have choices to make within them, but we can’t usually stop them from occurring—though we try. For example, maybe a family member is sick and we have choices make about care, medication, therapies, food, etc. That we can't do is stop the family member from being sick.

So many sensitive empaths forget this. We have natural innate healing ability and instead of examining the situation and changing the things we can within that, we move into resistance mode, refusing to accept what is in front of us. We use all of our energy to push back on what is. We get on the hamster wheel of resistance and it is a giant energy suck.

If we are called to work as an agent of healing within the situation, we’ll receive the guidance or the ask. Our tendency is to attach from our third chakra and our personality/ego trying to push the circumstance the other way, not considering that maybe that's not what our this person’s soul needs to experience for their own process and evolution.

It's like the rain.

The one thing we can always do is pray. That's a great way to work with the energy and intention without being attached to the outcome. Then, we need to release the result and ask for “the highest good of all.” This can be difficult, but things begin to move with fluidity once we’ve done it.

We begin to be able to take actions because we’re being inspired, rather than from attachment to outcome via fear and insecurity. When we can surrender, we clearly see the choices that we have available to us.

As a concrete example, I might make a soup for my ailing family member, and I may put a lot of love and intention into it. They might choose not to eat it, but honestly, that's not my concern. I followed my heart and did what I was called to do, listening to my inner guidance, as opposed to being swayed by things outside of me. I need to let go of the results.

We’ve heard the saying, “Not my will but thy will be done.” This can sometimes feel disempowering and contrary to the idea of self-mastery—like we are asking some being outside to decide our fate. What we need to realize is that we're speaking to the Divine and we're also speaking to Higher Self—the part of us that knows that knows better, that knows everything. It's that piece of the Divine that is housed within us.

In handing situations over, we're bypassing our mind, ego, and desires, and we're moving right to the aspects of ourSelves that know. Universe sees what our soul needs and knows exactly which experiences would be right for growth and evolution.

When we give things over to our Angels, the Divine, and to our Higher Selves, we experience a tremendous sense of freedom and lightness. We're constantly trying to control outcomes without realizing it. This creates tension. In the letting go, we can then pull back all of the energy we’ve been wasting and use it to follow up on the inspiration we're being given.

This helps us to reconnect with our creativity and it automatically puts us more firmly on the path of our life’s purpose, as we have enough energy to show up rather than wasting it constantly moving in circles.

We have no idea what we're ready for.

The Angels always tell us that we have no idea what they are holding for us. It's better than we can ever even imagine. When we do let go and surrender, the Angels can deliver all of the things that match our hearts’ desires—even the ones we’re too afraid to speak of. The constriction that was caused by holding on is freed up and now the flow can start again.

There are some very specific tools that the Angels want to share:

One is “This or something better.” When we are working in manifestation, we need to get in touch with the feelings we want to experience. Then we need to let go of how this amazingness is going to happen. By saying, “This or something better,” we go beyond the limitation of our expectation, experience, and vision and move into the realm of infinite potential. We understand and accept that what is delivered could be better than anything we could have ever imagined.

The other tool is the God Box or an Angel Box—whichever name you prefer. Choose a special box, or spend some time creating one. (Note: This is an especially great tool for children— especially those who are sensitive and/or anxious.)

Then, write down (or draw) all the things that concern or worry you and place them inside of the box. Also place anything you’re just ready to let go of and allow your Divine Team to handle in there, as well. Once you’re finished, close the box and let go. Now that they are inside, you can’t take them back.

You can place the box on your altar or in a special place in your home. When you look at it, send energy or pray for the intentions without attachment. Then, every six months to a year, open it up and look at what was in there. You'll be amazed at the things that seemed important and you’ve since forgotten about. You’ll see how everything resolved itself in a beautiful way. (Just setting your expectations here, beautiful does not always mean pain free.)

Take the things that no longer need to be in the box out of them and have a burning ceremony or plant them into the earth, releasing them for the last time. Anything that hasn't been resolved yet can stay in the box. You can add to it every day.

When we realize that our reluctance to let go and surrender is simply fear that's taking over, the choice becomes obvious. There are only two emotions and the realities that they create. There's love and then there’s fear. Every thought we have, action we take, and decision we make, moves us in one of those two directions. If you’re here, you’re definitely striving to move towards love.

Just take notice without judgment or expectation. Ask yourself, “Am I getting closer to love or to fear right now?” Then look at the choice you have to change the outcome if you’re not happy with the trajectory.

You (and your choices) are more power-full than you realize.

TLDR:
Our Angels really want us to let go and let them handle things for us. They invite us to give the, anything that's too big (or burdensome) for us to carry so that we can feel more freedom. We can also hand it over directly to the Divine if that’s more comfortable. When we let go, it can work out in exactly the way that is best for all involved.
