Healing for the World's Healers

Using Space to Create Everything

No matter how much spiritual or self help work that we do, we continuously overlook the place where all of the magic lives.

Why is that? Because we've probably never even been taught that it exists, even though it’s always been there.

The place where the infinite potential of the universe lies, as well as access to all of your Guidance is “the space between.” It’s the space between the breaths, the space between your thoughts, the space between night and day, the seasons etc.

Have you ever really tried to be present in this space?

There’s a split second between the ending of one thought and the beginning of the next. When we can bring our awareness to the stillness that happens in that split second, we become able to access all that the universe holds for us. As we practice this, we go from first being able to find that space, to then being able to be aware of it, then present within it, to finally being able to expand it as we become able to tolerate that stillness for longer periods of time.

It's a little different with the breath. There’s a still point that occurs where the breath turns from exhalation to inhalation, then from inhalation back to exhalation. This happens naturally and does not require that we hold our breath at all. When we pay attention to the stillness that happens within that moment, we become able to expand it, even as we continue to breathe, stilling our thoughts, our energy, and our nervous systems. This applies even if we are moving our bodies. We are speaking in terms of internal stillness.

When we’re still on the inside, our Guidance can reach us. We have access to the infinite potential, and we know exactly what to do. We become able to create with intention and more ease because we are able to access everything that exists, has existed, or is yet to come.

When we can spend more time in the gap, that stillness, we become more aware of the infinite number of choice points we have every day. We are constantly reacting to the world around us, but when we are present in this gap, we have the opportunity to look at how we are about to react and why. We can take a couple of breaths here, giving ourselves the opportunity to choose differently. This puts power back in our hands, as we go from being on autopilot to making active choices that are more reflective of how we choose to live now, and are less reflective of past behaviors or things we might have inherited.

We begin to create a more harmonious experience of life, as our outer world reflects our inner landscape more thoroughly. Stringing the moments where we are able to be present in this space, this gap, allows us to expand our ability to access the infinite potential of the universe for longer and longer periods of time. It also allows us to be receptive to our Guidance more regularly.

We are human. There are going to be days where we slip backwards or are not able to access these still points the same way were might have been the day before. It’s ok. We can be present with that, too, knowing it is a temporary situation, and that we will be able to get back there.

When we can bring ourselves into full presence in these gaps, something really beautiful happens—synergy. Oneness. For example, if I am speaking with you, and my attention is focused solely on you and not divided amongst my children, my phone, what I am eating, and our conversation, all of my attention is with you. There’s a merging, a dropping of the illusion of other, as the sense of separation fades away. We become one in this interaction and have this wonderful experience of connection. This is why we feel so healed when a therapist, coach, friend, or practitioner is fully present with us!

By the way…this works with people, animals, plants, and inanimate objects, as well. Bringing attention to what we are doing, sensing, feeling in every moment—being fully aware—keeps the door open to oneness more often. We begin to know which steps we need to take to be more ok more of the time.

But what if being fully present with someone, a situation, or my body is painful?

When we're in emotional or physical pain, the temptation is to run away, however, the best remedy for pain is to be fully present within it.

When we can do thus, all can be laid out on the table, and it doesn't need to drag on. All can be experienced, worked through, and resolved as quickly as possible, because we're bringing all of our attention and intention to it. Yes, we might need to take a break, or it might take a little time depending on the situation and how intense it is. That becomes an active choice that is matter of managing our energy, while committing to not running from or avoiding the feelings or the discomfort of the interaction.

When we are experiencing discomfort within our bodies, the first thing we do is run, going out of body and we leaving it behind to fend for itself. We hang out somewhere near and outside of the body. So, what’s the problem?

True healing happens when we are fully present in and with our bodies. When reside within them, all of our energy is present and available and can be concentrated on healing. When we pull our energy out, the body is trying to heal with only the traces of energy we’ve left behind—the bare minimum required to keep your soul tethered to it. So, you see why healing would take much longer this way. Staying with and committing to healing requires dedication and allows much more healing to happen more efficiently.

We also have access to infinite Guidance and wisdom. We become able to ask the right questions like:
Why am I experiencing this?
What is it that I need to address?
Where is the root of this discomfort, this dis-ease?
What do I need in order to heal?

…and be present for the answers, as well as able to interpret them.

We’re not going to be perfect at this all the time, and we might need help accessing our answers and our healing. That’s ok! We’ll be led to the right support when we can be still and silent and present within the gap.

There is never any Guidance or a potential that is too great for us to reach. All we need to do is become more mindful, present in the space between.

Begin by paying attention to the breath without stress or strain. Just notice the moment of pause between the inhalation and the exhalation. That's all.

If thoughts come, great! You can pay attention to the space that exists as one ends and the next begins. When the awareness is there, you can allow the space to expand and become fully present within it.

Play and experiment with this.

Let me know in the comments what’s worked for you and if you would like expansion on any of these topics. I'm always happy to go deeper.
